The University of South Dakota
Department of Nursing
The USD Department of Nursing is one of three outstanding nursing schools to be designated a National League for Nursing (NLN) Center of Excellence. The NLN advances quality education that prepares the nursing workforce to meet the needs of diverse populations in an ever-changing health care environment. The USD Department of Nursing associate degree program was founded in response to the healthcare needs of the community. Its hallmark is the ability to respond to the needs of the people of South Dakota by delivering the program at the main campus in Vermillion, and campuses in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Watertown, and Pierre. In addition, the program provides a distance education partnership with the Good Samaritan Society in North Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota. This prestigious honor is based on the sustained demonstration of excellence in faculty development, nursing education research, student learning and professional development. The extraordinary effort necessary to establish and maintain theses educational offerings reflects the commitment of both The University of South Dakota and the Department of Nursing to the citizens of the state and region. Earning the prestigious designation from 2004 through 2007 by the NLN, the USD Department of Nursing joins Villanova University and the Community College of Philadelphia in sharing the honor of this first-ever designation. "It is a tribute to the university administration, out faculty, and our students that we are able to maintain our commitment to student learning and professional development at all our campuses throughout the state."
