SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY
B. S. Liberal Studies
Degree and Certificate
Requirements
This university degree program will lead to a Bachelor of Science in
Liberal Studies. All of the course work can be obtained at CUC in Pierre.
The program allows students to pursue a degree outside the confines of a
traditional department major, constructing a program of advanced courses
to meet individual needs. This program provides instruction in the
university core requirement for a liberal education as well as training in
specific disciplines.

A. A. General Studies
Degree
and
Certificate Requirements
This university degree program will lead to an Associate of
Arts in General Studies. The South Dakota Board of Regents has authorized
this degree for all South Dakota public supported universities.
Requirements include 30 system/general education credit requirements,
including 6 credits of writing classes, 3 credits of speech, 6 credits of
social science, 6 credits of humanities, 3 credits of math, 6 credits of
science and 34 credits of electives. All of the course work can be
obtained at CUC in Pierre through South Dakota State University.

Certificate in Computer Applications
Degree
and Certificate Requirements
This certificate in Computer Applications is offered by South Dakota
State University. This series of five courses provides students the
opportunity to take a programmatic approach to their education where each
course builds on the other. It also offers the opportunity for training on
up-to-date software programs currently used by state government and
businesses. This program may be completed in one year.

RN Upward Mobility Program
Degree
and Certificate Requirements
The South Dakota University College of Nursing offers a
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing Completion Program (RN Upward Mobility) in
the Pierre area for registered nurses with a diploma or associate degree
nursing preparation. Recognition of past education and experience provides
students with the opportunity to complete the program in as little as two
years. Students with professional and/or personal responsibilities may
choose to take longer.
An individualized plan of study is developed for each
student in the program. The plan of study outlines a schedule of all
nursing, required nursing support and general elective courses to be taken

*As of September 2000, the Upward Mobility Program was
offered via satellite to 209 sites. The courses are mainly Internet
delivery with one hour a week satellite. All clinicals take place in the
student’s community if at all possible.
South Dakota State University in conjunction with Capital
University Center offers the required support courses for the nursing
major which may be taken each semester. Please see the general South

M.Ed. Master of Education in Educational Administration
Degree and
Certificate Requirements
The program will provide the necessary academic coursework for
educators who currently possess baccalaureate degrees and appropriate
experience to become K-12 school administrators. The required courses
for the M.Ed. degree will be delivered via on-line and face-to-face
courses. To ensure that participants can complete the curriculum in a
timely manner, the coursework will be delivered over the course of six
or seven semesters, including summer terms.

and Certificate Requirements
A full nursing program, open to all interested persons in central
South Dakota, is offered by the University of South Dakota through Capital
University Center. South Dakota State University provides the support
curriculum.

The Master of Business Administration degree is designed to meet
the needs of modern business for broadly educated management personnel who

SOUTH DAKOTA SCHOOL OF MINES AND TECHNOLOGY
M. S. in Industrial/Tech Management
Degree
and Certificate Requirements
This special Master’s program provides the knowledge, skills,
tools, and system required to effectively manage and understand fiscal,
industrial, and technological aspects related to the industry,
professional service, governmental operations, and business.
This collaborative effort allows residents to earn the
Master of Science Degree in Industrial Management from South Dakota State
University. Course work is delivered through Capital University Center and
video or electronic delivery. Participating students may earn credit
toward degrees by taking courses from either university.

Requirements
The Associate Degree in Business is offered by Northern State
University, in cooperation with South Dakota State University through
Capital University Center. This program includes courses in general
education and a core of business subjects, comprising of accounting,
management, marketing, and computers. The program provides the educational
foundation for entry level positions in business, as well as a base for
continuing professional and educational development. The program requires
64 credit hours of study. All course work may be completed in Pierre.
